December Mood Board: Modern Victorian Living
For this month’s mood board I chose one of my favorite projects to date! The client had a very similar design style to my own which is always fun to work with. She lives in a gorgeous historic home and wanted her living room to be a mix of modern and sophisticated while still in keeping with the homes historical features.
In this design I chose a circular couch to offset the formality of the existing space. I chose the color light blue to mimic the blue in the ceiling. I also chose to tie in plush velvet furniture and gold lamps. I wanted to incorporate a lot of rich materials to give the space layers and keep the Victorian vibe of the home. Since Victorian design is all about more being more, you can not have too much texture.
For extra seating I chose a bench and poufs that fit nicely under gold console tables on each side of the fireplace and allow for extra seating. The space allowed for a small writing desk by the window and room for an additional cabinet or buffet. I chose a black buffet to offset the black poufs and add another level of color.
For final touches I added art work that is similar in tone and colors to the furniture and added an area rug and curtains with a lighter green color that adds contrast to the existing room colors while still blending with the room’s existing wall color.
This space creates a show stopping effect, giving the historically Victorian room a modern twist!
