Dubai Day Trip
While I was in the UAE I was close enough to Dubai that I had to take a quick trip over to see it. It is one of those cities on my bucket list! It is such a fascinating display of wealth and architecture. I only had one afternoon here so my time was limited, but I knew I wanted to see the Burj Khalifa.
The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and If I am being honest that was a bit disappointing-only because it cost so much and I was not willing to pay over $400 USD to go up to what is not even the very top of the building. (That’s right you don’t actually go all the way to the top.) So instead with a friend’s advice I went to the Frame. A structure in Dubai that is shaped-wait for it-like a frame. You can still get a great view of the city and the Burj Kahlifa without the enormous price.
However, the Burj Khalifa is located next to the Dubai mall which is a sight in and of itself. It is one of the largest malls in the world. So if you are in want of anything-it is here. It even includes an aquarium. The outside is glorious and has a beautiful view of the Dubai Fountains with a straight view up of the Burj Khalifa.
I also had a quick chance to head out to Palm Island-a man made island that is shaped like a palm tree. It was a glorious day, beautifully sunny and warm but not too hot. The perfect way to see the beach. I also got to drive by and see the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah-one of the world’s finest hotels-or so I am told. I did not actually make it inside.
For a quick afternoon trip I’d say I got my thrills.
