Creative Window Coverings: Not Just Your Average Curtain

Lately I have been obsessing over window treatments and the instant transformation it can make in a room. I personally am a big fan of the current velvet trend and am hoping it lasts awhile. There are so many fun textiles, styles and creative options for window coverings that I wanted to share some of my favorites!

It is no secret that I love Target’s Opalhouse collection and their line of curtains is no exception. I have used quite a few of their curtains in my designs-from their tasseled and velvet to their sheer florals. I paired the below pink velvet curtain with this orange abstract sheer curtain in a recent kitchen remodel. You can see more on that kitchen HERE.

I love the pop of color these curtains give an otherwise stark and white kitchen.

I also recently used this sheer floral pattern (also from Opalhouse) in my current living room. I opted for a double rod with sheer curtains in the back instead of blinds, and blue velvet blackout curtains on top that can be pulled closed at night. (I have a thing for velvet, I believe I mentioned that.)

Or how about this idea of using lace as a DIY privacy window covering? This would give such a fantastic vintage flair to a space while also serving a useful purpose.

Window coverings don’t only have to be curtains though. I love this idea of barn doors on this window! I will have to keep this in mind for any future farmhouse trendy clients.

I also love the idea of using live plants as a unique window covering. I especially like this example of hanging an herb garden in the kitchen window.

This last one is really more of a window than a covering, but I just had to include it….STAINED GLASS. Lately I am on the lookout for some antique stained glass. I would love to include it in my current kitchen. I have a door with a window above it and feel it is need of some sprucing. The room is fairly plane at the moment, and I think the right piece of stained glass would really add so much life and color! In the meantime here are some beautiful window clings, that fake the stained glass look for a temporary fix.
