Bi-fold Closet Door Makeover - A Super Easy DIY Under $15
Our move to Atlanta has been a success so far, and we are deep in the midst of decorating. We are not doing any major renovations right now and just trying to get the house spruced up while working with what we have. Moving is expensive so any cheap and easy DIY options are always favorable.
One of the first rooms we updated was our guest bedroom, I wrote about that in my previous blog. The last piece of this room to come together are the closet doors. They are older bi-folds and were clearly painted white by the seller. They are nothing to write home about and could use some more character. While I could have just left them white until we are able to replace them, I wanted to do something now that would make them more desirable.
My solution? Gold tape! That’s right, tape. Well metalized mylar tape to be exact. It cost $11 on Amazon and arrived the next day via Amazon Prime. You can buy this kind of tape in different, colors, finishes and widths. I went with a shiny gold to go with the existing gold accents I have in the room. It makes a great contrast with the white doors and adds a more expensive look with its shiny finish.
I arranged the tape in an angular pattern for a bit of an Art Deco feel, but you can add it in any pattern you desire. The best part? It comes off easy so if you want to try again, you can! (Which I may be doing as I noticed after I was done that my pattern looks a lot like an angry bird-once you see it you can not unsee it. LOL!)
With some left over gold spray paint I re-colored the knobs. I may replace them with some glass ones later on, but for now this will do. The end result is something a lot more dramatic and adds to the room so much more than I imagined it would.
Now onto the next project!
