Vintage Inspired Home Design
I love adding a touch of retro and including some vintage inspired designs into my home. From bar carts to atomic print patterns, I can’t get enough! Below I have compiled some fun vintage ideas you should consider for your home. Some of these ideas I have myself and some I can’t wait to incorporate! I hope you enjoy this post as much as I have!
Bar Cart
I’m starting off with an easy one. The vintage bar cart has seen a rise in popularity the last couple of years and I can see why! With the variety of classy styles to choose from you can also spruce up your cart for holidays, parties and themed events-adding to its fun and decorative display. The idea of the bar cart brings us back to when living room parties were spent around a coffee table socializing with friends and not spent staring into the black whole of streaming television. Make-Up Vanity
I found my vintage vanity in a thrift store awhile back and it has been one of my favorite purchases to date! I feel so elegant when I sit at it putting on my make-up and styling my hair. There is something to be said for having a space that just makes you feel special. A vanity is one of those timeless pieces that allow you the space to feel pampered. Unique Lighting
I have said it before and I will say it again, lighting is one of the most overlooked items in a room design. I can not stress the importance of having enough atmospheric light as well as task lighting. It just makes a room that much more comfortable and inviting. With more lights also means more lighting options and varying it up with some unique light fixtures is a great way to add style.
Retro Patterns
I think part of the reason I love anything of the retro variety is because it makes me nostalgic for my grandmother’s house. It just reminds me of a happy time filled with love and joy. So why not have some textiles in your home that evoke that same kind of joy? I particularly love atomic patterns with its bright colors and geometric shapes.
Velvet Furniture
Velvet is such a luxurious fabric I dare you not to fall in love with it. With so much mid-century modern influence in today’s furniture pieces the clean lines and minimalistic feel pairs so well with the rich velvet texture. Use it on a tufted couch or a channel backed chair and you have a piece straight out of Mad-Men.
Vintage items are having their moment in design right now, I think, because of their timelessness. The quality of pieces made fifty years ago were made from real wood and not just the pressed cardboard you see in a lot of bargain retailers these days. They are also unique and weren’t massed produced making a good find a stand out piece. For something truly special consider adding in some vintage inspiration!
