What is the granny chic design style? And why do I love it?
My grandmother passed away when I was in high school, but I still remember how much I loved going to her house as a kid. I remember sitting at her round formica table with their bright yellow chairs eating mac and cheese for dinner and bacon for breakfast. She had a record player in the living room that played gospel music and Elvis and her bedroom had a matching mid-century bedroom set original to the 50s. Her house was one of my favorite place’s on earth.
I know I’m not the only one who loved visiting their grandparents so it really isn’t too surprising that the latest design trend - Grandma Chic - is taking off! If you are left a little confused and not sure what this new catchy term means, well it’s basically a modern spin on all your Grandmother’s favorites.
Florals
Think heavy floral fabrics, in both bedding, curtains and/or wallpaper.
Retro Furnishings
Like that mid-century set in my grandma’s bedroom.
Vintage Decor
You know, the types of things you thought you would never want to inherit and are now dying to have!
Whimsical Chotchkies
This can range from anything humorous to out-right absurd. Go with what speaks to you.
Still Life Paintings
Like watching Bob Ross, these paintings are just so relaxing.
For me this design trend plays on my nostalgic side and speaks to my inner maximalist. Millennials in-particular are loving this style and it’s not hard to see why. Grandma Chick means comfort, security and coziness. Something we all crave a little bit more these days.
